Designed with librarians and educators in mind, this presentation focuses on book banning happening in the U.S. today. It discusses the history of book banning in America, books that have been commonly banned that are also considered classics, and current legislation to ban certain materials from schools.

The concept behind the t-shirt was to wear it during a legislative meeting or perhaps a school board meeting while giving the presentation. The “retro” lady on the front is encircled by passages from some of my favorite books, and the back includes a list of banned books to check out.

I chose more retro fonts to match the figure of the girl and an art deco font called “Gin” for the list of banned books on the back.

While book banning isn’t a huge problem in California, it does happen in some communities, so the goal is to raise awareness about this issue and why book banning is so harmful to LGBTQ+, trans youth and really all individuals.
